It’s Christmas time, and wherever you look, there are temping sweet treats available to nibble on. At this time of year, commonly, our consumption of sugar raises dramatically, and with that comes increases in both bacterial and yeast infections, because guess what? Those little bugs love sugar even more than we do. Sugar releases opioids and dopamine, and is so addictive that is has been shown to surpass the cocaine reward(1). I have just come back from Cape Town, where there are wild baboons running all over the mountain, and frequently into tourist areas, as well as breaking into homes. One waiter told me of a large male baboon, who raids them every day. The man told me that this baboon knows where the coffee tray is kept in the restaurant, and every morning he barges into the restaurant and grabs a handful of sugar cubes. It’s comic in one sense, but desperately sad in another.
This is the time of the year when I have many people suffering from thrush, cystitis, athlete’s foot, sore scalp, bloating, brain fog, aching muscles and joints. These are common symptoms of Candida overgrowth, and the most common cause of that is sugar.
Botanica Medica Candida Gel has been one of my best sellers over the years because it quickly controls symptoms of thrush or any yeast skin irritation, and it has a lovely fresh natural scent. If you feel that the yeast overgrowth is internal, then you might like to use the Yeast Tea too; and if you feel very unwell due to Candida, then perhaps consider a consultation, where I can treat you more holistically.
